Last Day of School

Today was the last day of school at the Switzemalph Adult Learning Centre. We had our usual celebration by inviting the community to a pancake breakfast. I took my place at the portable table top grill and flipped pancakes. Jannie made the scrambled eggs. Another person made the coffee and started the bacon, until relieved by a very capable cook. The kitchen was a busy place.
A 9:00am the community started to arrived. they were treated to pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and hash browns. Our language teacher asked Jannie and I to sing a Christmas song. So, we sang one song in Shuswap. An elder nodded with approval when I took a hand drum from the wall. We took our places and sang Le7 Marie Pesquye Me7e.
At the end, a dear lady with some chronic physical needs, whom Jannie has grown close to, through acts of service, presented us with a gift. She told everyone that she appreciated what we meant to her, and our service to the community through the school.
It has taken 7 1/2 years to get to this place of belonging here. It is home. There is much to do, but we are grateful for how God has blessed and opened hearts to us.
