The Blinders Are On

I went to a funeral recently. Funerals, for the most part are sad, but this one should have been labelled as tragic. The deceased took his own life by jumping in front of a train. At age 43, he was dead. The tragedy deepens when I learned that his older brother and his father also committed suicide. Three people in the same family died at their own hands.

During the funeral, some people went to the microphone to speak. At one point or other, each said that "when you time is done, its time to go." The people of the community were putting a spin on the death as though it was sad, but somehow unavoidable.

The minister didn't pander to that falsehood. He said that the deceased ended up dead at age 43 because of the choices that he made. The minister tried to present the truth that this wasn't simply sad, it was a curse on the family and community and it needed to be broken.

It really bothered me that the people in that community are using denial as a coping method. They have bought a lie, and in believing it, they are dooming themselves to more tragic funerals down the road. The Thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. That is what Jesus said. That thief is the Devil. May God free my friends from this lie and liar.
